How do we keep the proposal a secret?
The cover story does the heavy lifting, and the best one is already sitting there waiting for you: a photo tour. Couples book photoshoots in Santorini every single day, so telling your partner you arranged "a little photoshoot to remember the trip" raises zero eyebrows. How do I travel with the engagement ring?
In your carry-on, always. Checked bags get delayed, rerouted and opened, and this is the one item of the whole trip you cannot replace at an airport shop.
Take the ring out of the big branded box before you fly. Those boxes are shaped exactly like what they are, and they have a habit of being spotted in a shared backpack. A small pouch, or a plain little box tucked in with your toiletries, works much better.
At airport security you can quietly ask the officers for a private screening if you're worried the tray will give you away, most airports will do this without any fuss. And do look into insuring the ring before you travel, it usually costs little compared to the ring itself and it buys you real peace of mind.

How far in advance should we book?
As early as you possibly can. High season runs May to October, and July and August dates go first, sometimes many months ahead. Santorini is a popular island, the famous sunset lands around 8PM in summer, and there is only one of it each evening, so the good venues and the good time slots are genuinely limited.

Do we actually need a proposal planner?
Honest answer: no. Plenty of people propose on a quiet caldera path with no help at all, and it's wonderful. If your plan is simply you, the ring and the view, go and do it, you have our blessing!
Where a local planner earns their keep is everything you can't see from a screenshot. We know which rooftops are truly private and which ones just photograph that way, venues are sometimes shown with props and no people for a reason. We know where the wind hits in the afternoon, which spots need permission from an owner, and what time the crowds gather at the Fortress of Oia, the most visited sunset spot on the island, expect witnesses and applause there. What should we wear?
There is no dress code, wear what feels like you. That said, after so many proposals we do have opinions.
For a dinner proposal, casual towards formal is the sweet spot, a nice shirt or a nice dress. For anything along the caldera, skip the high heels and put on your sneakers, the paths are cobbled, steep and occasionally uphill in ways the photos don't show. And on a yacht, keep it summer-casual, if you turn up dressed for a gala your partner will smell the surprise from a mile away, and you won't enjoy the cruise either. In our experience light colours photograph beautifully against the white houses and the blue Aegean. But truly, the happiest couples in our pictures are the comfortable ones.

Which mistakes do couples make most often?
We keep seeing the same few, and they are all easy to avoid:
- Proposing the day you land. Flights get delayed and jetlag is real. Give it a day and propose on the second day of your stay, you'll be rested and actually present in the moment.
- Booking the shortest photo option. A photographer cannot give you a result you'll treasure in just 10 minutes. Longer coverage means real photos of the reaction, the tears, the champagne, the sunset afterwards.
- High heels on the caldera. We said it above and we'll say it again. Sneakers on the paths, heels at dinner.
