A symbolic wedding on the caldera is the ceremony most couples picture when they close their eyes and think of Santorini - white walls, blue domes somewhere below, the Aegean stretched out behind you and the famous sunset on its way. And because it is symbolic, there is no paperwork at all.
You say your vows on a terrace or viewpoint over the cliffs, we handle every detail around you, and the legal part waits patiently at home for whenever you feel like doing it. Married here, official there - it works beautifully.
Our symbolic wedding packages
We offer three symbolic wedding packages - Essential, Superior and Premium - starting from €850, each one possible on the caldera. The full list of what is included is on our packages page. What each package includes on the caldera
A symbolic caldera wedding uses the same three symbolic wedding packages, with a terrace above the sea as the setting. The Essential package (€850 plus VAT) is the ceremony itself: we book the date, the celebrant and the spot, guide you through the vows, stay with you for the hour of the ceremony and bring the champagne, the music for your entrance and a keepsake certificate. The Superior package (€1,600) adds an air-conditioned car for the two of you, one hour of photography with 60 colour-graded pictures, one hour of video edited into a short film, and the ceremony table decorations. The Premium package (€1,900) adds the bridal bouquet, the groom's boutonniere and a hairdresser who comes to your hotel. Extra flowers, candles, fountain fireworks after sunset, and hair and make-up for family members or bridesmaids can be added to any of them. On the caldera the setting is the work: we choose the terrace or viewpoint with you, arrange it for the hour, and dress it with flowers, a red carpet or a gazebo where the terrace allows one.
Where on the caldera, and morning or sunset
Imerovigli is the highest village on the rim and looks straight at the volcano; Firostefani is quieter and a short walk from Fira, which keeps dinner and the hotels easy for guests; Fira itself has terraces above the Old Port; Oia is the postcard and the busiest place on the island at sunset, so there we suggest a private terrace or a morning ceremony. Sunset is the classic hour, around 8 in the evening in summer, and the light on the white walls is at its best in the forty minutes before it. A morning ceremony has its own case: empty paths, soft light and the whole day ahead of you. Either way we build the timeline around the exact sunset of your date.
Can our guests join us on a caldera terrace?
Yes. Most terraces suit a small group; with a bigger party we book a venue with its own terrace and a dinner table, for example the AION venue at the Old Port of Fira. Tell us the number when you write and we say which spots work.
Do we need to walk far to the ceremony spot?
Usually not. The car brings you as close as the caldera paths allow; from there it is a short walk on steps and cobbles, so flat shoes for the walk and heels for the photos if you like. If someone in your party cannot manage steps, tell us and we choose a terrace with road access.
